Global Agropreneurs Program (GAP)

Program excerpt / tagline rendered by SSR.

Reinventing Agriculture for Africa's Youth Nigeria's agriculture sector supports the majority of the population but is still widely perceived by educated youth as a fallback option — something you do when other options have failed. The Global Agropreneurs Program (GAP) exists to change that narrative entirely, positioning agriculture as one of the most exciting and commercially rewarding sectors for ambitious young Nigerians. The Partnership Behind GAP GAP was developed in partnership with The Electronic Community, a US-based organisation specialising in digital connectivity and global entrepreneurship networks. This partnership brings international best practice in agri-business education to Nigerian communities, while connecting young Nigerian agropreneurs with global markets and networks through digital platforms. Who GAP Targets GAP is specifically designed for: NYSC members completing their service year who wish to transition into agriculture-based enterprise Secondary and tertiary school leavers exploring career options with real income potential Young farmers already in agriculture who want to move from subsistence to commercial production What GAP Teaches GAP combines agronomy with entrepreneurship and digital literacy. Participants learn to select commercially viable crops and livestock, apply modern production technologies, manage farm finances, access agri-finance products, and market produce through digital channels. Special emphasis is placed on agro-processing and value addition — moving participants up the value chain from primary production to higher-margin processed products. Impact Over 3,000 young Nigerians have participated in GAP cohorts since the program's inception. Alumni operate diverse enterprises — vegetable farms supplying urban supermarkets, poultry businesses, fish farms, processed food brands, and agri-tourism ventures. Several GAP alumni have gone on to become program facilitators themselves, extending ICDA's reach into new communities. Join the Movement GAP cohorts run quarterly and are available across our partner states. Enrolment is free for NYSC members. Other participants benefit from heavily subsidised rates. Contact ICDA to find the nearest active cohort or to propose a school or community partnership.
